Illegal Parking Fees, Auto Congestion, and Poor Food Services Plague Railway Hub
Key Points:
- Parking contractors illegally charging vehicles in station’s drop lane area
- Unauthorized shops continue operations despite repeated removals
- New platform restaurant fails to provide proper meal service to passengers
JAMSHEDPUR – Tatanagar Railway Station is struggling with numerous operational challenges despite its A1 plus grade status.
The station faces serious parking management issues. Meanwhile, illegal fee collection continues in drop lanes.
“Only extended parking should be charged,” GM Anil Kumar Mishra had clarified earlier.
Traffic Congestion
Auto-rickshaws frequently block station entry points. The blockage occurs near the RPF post daily.
Moreover, passengers struggle to navigate through crowded access points. The situation creates safety concerns for travelers.
Unauthorized Vendors
The taxi stand area has become problematic. Illegal shops keep reappearing after removal.
Meanwhile, authorities have conducted multiple eviction drives. However, unauthorized vendors return shortly afterward.
Passenger Services
The newly opened platform restaurant disappoints travelers. It offers only basic snacks instead of meals.
“We expected better services at an A1 plus station,” a regular commuter expressed disappointment.
Historical Context
Tatanagar Station received its A1 plus grade in 2018. The upgrade promised enhanced passenger facilities.
Meanwhile, similar issues had surfaced in previous years. Several improvement plans remained unimplemented.
