JAMSHEDPUR – Continuous rainfall has pushed local rivers beyond danger levels, prompting evacuations and heightened vigilance across the city.
The Swarnarekha and Kharkai rivers have surged past their danger marks following relentless downpours.
Both rivers are experiencing a rapid rise in water levels, alarming local authorities.
Consequently, the district administration has initiated evacuations from low-lying areas.
The Kharkai River currently flows at 131.04 meters, surpassing its 129.00-meter danger mark.
Meanwhile, the Swarnarekha River has reached approximately 122 meters, exceeding its 121.50-meter danger level.
Heavy rainfall over the past 48 hours has significantly worsened the situation.
Moreover, all gates of the Chandil Dam in Seraikela-Kharsawan district have been opened.
This action has further contributed to the rising water levels in the rivers.
As a result, floodwaters have started to enter homes in coastal areas.
District Magistrate Ananya Mittal has issued an alert to the NDRF.
Furthermore, he urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and prioritize safety.
The magistrate strongly advised against approaching riverbanks to prevent potential casualties.
In addition, he emphasized the importance of adhering to guidelines issued by the district administration.
