JAMSHEDPUR – A large mass wedding is set to take place at the Jambu Akhara complex on November 23 after the organisers completed all formal arrangements for the event.

The committee had invited applications until November 1. Moreover, consent forms and affidavits were examined before confirming the final list. Medical tests, including HIV and CBC, were also reviewed for each applicant.

Five couples were selected through this process. In addition, pairs from Haludbani, Makdampur and Sarjamda were included. Chhota Govindpur also figured among the main locations of the selected participants, as several grooms or brides hailed from the area.

The approved couples are listed below:

  • Anshu Karua of Haludbani with Priyanka Munda of Makdampur
  • Prasannjeet Nath of Chhota Govindpur with Sita Gosai of Sarjamda
  • Avinash Kalindi of East Plant Basti with Trisha Kalindi of Ulidih
  • Sunny Machhua of Sarjamda with Ganga Machhua of Chhota Govindpur
  • Somanath of Chhota Govindpur with Mamta Gosai of Sarjamda

The programme begins on November 21 at 6:30 pm. However, this session will feature mehndi ceremonies for all five brides.

On November 23, the procession will leave Rohan Akhara at 11 am. Moreover, the band will accompany the group to the Jambu Akhara premises. The jaymala ceremony will follow their arrival. In addition, five priests will conduct the marriages through Hindu rituals.

Each couple is allowed 15 guests from both sides. Besides, entry will only be permitted with valid passes. Kolkata musicians will perform shehnai. Meanwhile, artists from Jamshedpur will give saxophone presentations. A feast for around 1,000 attendees has been arranged.

Invitations have been sent to ministers, legislators, senior officials and former office bearers. Moreover, members of various social organisations and prominent citizens have also been invited.

The farewell for all couples will take place at 4 pm. Meanwhile, more than 100 volunteers will manage the programme throughout the day.

Related developments include the mass marriage festival organised earlier by other groups. On the other hand, wedding drives like the invitation initiative highlight community efforts. The region also reported large ceremonies such as the Baharagora event. Additionally, welfare programmes like the underprivileged couples drive continue. The committee’s earlier declaration is available in the previous report.
