JAMSHEDPUR – The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of a third railway line spanning 121 kilometers from Jamshedpur (Gamharia) through Chandil, Kandra, Purulia, Anara, Burnpur to Asansol.
The project is valued at Rs. 2,179 crore.
The new line is set to strengthen the railway network between Jharkhand and West Bengal.
The rail project will enhance connectivity on crucial routes, including the Delhi-Howrah and Howrah-Mumbai lines.
The budget allocation for this new infrastructure is part of a broader effort to expand rail networks across the state.
The region will benefit from improved accessibility to tourist spots like Maithan Dam and pilgrimage centers such as Kalyaneswari Temple.
The project is expected to generate 42 lakh man-days of employment during its construction phase.
Project Details and Environmental Benefits
The rail line will traverse several districts, including East Singhbhum in Jharkhand, and feature two new stations at Chandil and Nimdih.
The infrastructure includes 18 major bridges and 142 minor bridges.
It will cross major rivers such as Damodar and Cossye.
A ruling gradient of 1 in 100, compensated for curves, is maintained for the line.
The project also involves the construction of 54 rail flyovers and underbridges.
An estimated 74 crore kilograms of CO2 emissions will be saved, equivalent to the carbon absorption of three crore trees.
The railway line is expected to be completed within five years, significantly boosting the region’s transportation infrastructure.
The new line will enhance both passenger and freight capacities, facilitating economic growth.
