Dispute Arises Between BJP and AJSU Over Ichagarh Assembly Seat

Conflict between BJP and AJSU intensifies as both parties claim Ichagarh seat.

BJP asserts traditional claim while AJSU announces their candidate for the upcoming elections.

JAMSHEDPUR – A significant rift has emerged between the BJP and AJSU alliance over the Ichagarh Assembly seat in the Saraikela-Kharsawan district, under the Ranchi Lok Sabha constituency.

On Monday, AJSU supremo Sudesh Mahto visited Ichagarh and declared that the seat would go to AJSU, with Harelal Mahto as their candidate.

Sudesh Mahto’s Statement and BJP’s Reaction

Sudesh Mahto stated, "Harelal Mahto will contest from Ichagarh and represent the people’s voice."

In response, BJP leaders have vocally opposed AJSU’s claim.

Former MLA of Ichagarh, Arvind Singh alias Malkhan Singh, expressed strong disapproval, asserting, "Ichagarh has traditionally been a BJP seat. We first won it in 2000 and have contested here ever since."

Arvind Singh highlighted BJP’s historical success in Ichagarh, emphasizing that the party is capable of defeating JMM in this region.

He criticized AJSU’s statement, stating, "There is significant anger among BJP workers due to AJSU’s claim. BJP will not relinquish its claim on Ichagarh."

Tensions and Party Dynamics

The BJP’s district president, Uday Singhdev, also reacted strongly, calling Mahto’s announcement contrary to coalition principles.

Singhdev asserted, "Ichagarh has been a stronghold for BJP, and our grassroots organization is robust."

He noted that Ichagarh played a crucial role in BJP candidate Sanjay Seth’s victory in the Ranchi Lok Sabha seat.

Singhdev added, "Announcing an AJSU candidate without consultation creates confusion among NDA workers. Our workers will not accept any candidate other than BJP."

Implications for Upcoming Elections

Sudesh Mahto’s unilateral declaration has heightened tensions within the NDA alliance in Ichagarh.

Mahto declared Harelal Mahto as the NDA candidate from Ichagarh, predicting his victory.

The BJP, dealing with internal dissent, is preparing for a contentious selection process for its candidate.

The ongoing verbal battle among leaders has already intensified the political climate in Ichagarh.
