BJP Reveals Tamil Nadu Lok Sabha Candidates
K Annamalai from Coimbatore, Tamilisai Soundararajan to Contest from Chennai South
BJP announces its lineup for nine Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu, including prominent leaders and former governors, aiming to secure a foothold in the state.
NEW DELHI – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday named its candidates for nine crucial Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu, signaling a strategic campaign to bolster its presence in the state.
Former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and party state unit chief K Annamalai are among the notable figures fielded, representing Chennai South and Coimbatore, respectively.
The party’s choice of candidates like Union Minister L Murugan for Nilgiri and former Union Minister P Radhakrishnan for Kanyakumari underscores its commitment to leveraging experienced leadership in the electoral fray.
Additional candidates include Vinoj P Selvam for Chennai Central, AC Shanmugam for Vellore, C Narasimhan for Krishnagiri, and Nainar Nagendran for Thoothukudi, with the elections scheduled for the first phase on April 19.
This announcement comes as the BJP seeks to improve its performance in Tamil Nadu, following a 2019 Lok Sabha election in which it failed to secure any seats in the state.
By fielding a mix of seasoned politicians and new faces, the BJP aims to make significant inroads in Tamil Nadu, challenging the dominant regional parties in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
