Pak’s Ex-PM Imran Khan Sentenced and Arrested in Toshakhana Case
PTI Chairman Imran Khan was convicted and arrested on corruption charges related to the Toshakhana case, causing a ripple effect in the political landscape of Pakistan.
WORLD DESK- Ex-PM of Pakistan Imran Khan has been arrested once again on corruption charges relating to the Toshakhana case.
The latest verdict on Imran Khan, the PTI Chairman, has sparked concerns among many of his supporters.
The leader faced harsh criticism from many party officials, following the unrest caused by his previous arrest in May.
Party loyalists who once staunchly defended Imran are now distancing themselves from the PTI.
Significant departures from the party and a near-complete media ban on Imran have cast doubt over PTI’s chances in the upcoming elections.
The exodus from PTI has seen many members joining the newly formed Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), led by Jahangir Khan Tareen.
Imran’s arrest today, as confirmed by PTI Punjab Chapter via a tweet, showed no resistance from either the leader or his party members.
This situation starkly contrasted his previous arrests, where his residence was staunchly defended by party loyalists.
The PTI Chairman was sentenced to a three-year imprisonment and fined Rs100,000 for engaging in corrupt practices by the Islamabad trial court.
The sentencing was related to his dishonest concealment of gifts received from Toshakhana during the fiscal years 2018-2019 and 2019-2020.
Imran’s claim of receiving gifts from Toshakhana, as per his filed assets and liabilities form, was proven to be untruthful and inaccurate.
His false statements led to his conviction, making this a significant development in the Toshakhana case.
Despite multiple opportunities given by ASDJ Dilawar for the defense attorney to appear, the absence of Imran’s lawyers during the court session was noted.
Lastly, Punjab police detained Imran at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore, following the court order, marking the start of his jail term at Kot Lakhpat Jail.
