MEDININAGAR – A group of forest guards in Palamu’s Chhatarpur area were attacked by stone mafia and locals while conducting a raid on illegal stone mining near the Mangraha hills in the Kangalidih forest region.
Acting on a tip-off, six guards on motorcycles reached the site on Saturday and apprehended one suspect, Nagendra Yadav, son of Lallu Yadav of Choukhra village.
While one person escaped into the forest, the team detained Nagendra and began escorting him to Chhatarpur.
However, villagers and stone mafia ambushed the guards, assaulting them and freeing the detained individual.
Forest guard Jitendra Kumar stated that after prolonged pleas, the guards managed to escape with their lives.
An FIR has been registered on Sunday at Chhatarpur police station against 10 named individuals and 20 unidentified assailants under forest laws and relevant IPC sections.
According to Kumar, the raid was initiated based on intelligence about large-scale illegal stone mining and sales in the forest area.
Station Officer Prashant Prasad confirmed the FIR and assured that investigations are underway.
He added that all angles, including organized involvement in illegal mining, will be examined as the probe progresses.
