JAMSHEDPUR – The Department of Mechanical Engineering, NIT Jamshedpur, successfully concluded its 3rd International and 15th National Conference on Industrial Problems on Machine and Mechanisms (IPRoMM-2024). Held from December 19 to 21, 2024, the conference drew global participation from academia and industry.
A Grand Opening and Industry Visit
The conference commenced on December 19 with industrial visits to Tata Steel, Tata Motors, and RSB Global. Delegates witnessed fascinating processes like molten steel production, rigorous vehicle testing on challenging tracks, and high-precision product development. Participants described this as a “lifetime achievement” and appreciated the hospitality provided by the hosts.
On December 20, the official inauguration ceremony began at 9:00 AM in the Diamond Jubilee Hall Lecture Complex. Prof. Shalendra Kumar welcomed attendees, and dignitaries, including Prof. Sandipan Bandyopadhyay, Dr. Rakesh Bhargava, and Prof. Chitranjan Sahay, shared insights during the event. Chief Guest Mr. Probal Ghosh, Vice President of Tata Steel, also addressed the gathering.

The conference featured engaging keynote speeches by eminent experts:
- Prof. Chitranjan Sahay, University of Hartford, USA, shared strategies for designing products for extreme environments.
- Dr. Rakesh Bhargava, from Innovative Turbomachinery Technologies, USA, discussed the evolution of gas turbine technology.
- Dr. Madhusudan Pal, Director of COE at FIDDI, Noida, presented on innovations in footwear design and manufacturing.
Additional notable sessions included Mr. Dinesh Kumar Ranjan’s talk on SME challenges and Mr. N. Rajesh Kumar of Tata Steel on current industrial challenges.
Industry and Academia Collaboration
Industry leaders like Mr. Ravi Prasad from RSB Transmission Pvt. Ltd. shared real-world approaches to solving machinery-related issues, emphasizing the synergy between industry and academia.
The event also hosted 71 research paper presentations across 12 technical sessions, covering diverse topics like advanced materials and innovative manufacturing solutions.

On December 21, the conference concluded with a valedictory function featuring Prof. Shukla, Director of MANIT Bhopal, as the chief guest. Guest of Honor Prof. N.K. Singh from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad shared valuable insights.
