Ghatshila Highway Collision: Sand Transport Leads to Fatalities and Injuries
A tragic accident on a Ghatshila highway involving two sand-laden vehicles resulted in three deaths and serious injuries, highlighting the perilous nature of illegal sand transportation.
JAMSHEDPUR – In a catastrophic collision between two sand-laden vehicles on a Ghatshila highway, three individuals lost their lives, while another was gravely injured.
The incident, which occurred near Ghatshila Phuldungri around 2 am, involved a parked highway vehicle being rear-ended by another at high speed.
The collision led to the death of the parked vehicle’s driver, Vikas Karmakar, and two others, Ambuj Mahato and an unidentified driver, while a passenger sustained severe injuries.
Local resident Patitro Karmakar was involved in the accident while assisting with a tire change.
Authorities believe the incident was triggered by the speeding vehicle’s attempt to evade police or administrative pursuit, highlighting ongoing concerns about illegal sand transportation in the area.
Sand trading, especially at night, has become a dangerous and illicit activity, with trucks frequently traveling from West Bengal to different arreas without proper authorization.
The accident underscores the risks posed by such unregulated activities, as well as the potential involvement of some administrative officials in the sand trading business.
The deceased, identified as Sanoj Karmakar and Pavitra Karmakar alias Pintu, were residents of Rajnagar Batujhora and Manohar Colony respectively.
Pavitra Karmakar was aiding a friend with car troubles when the accident occurred.
The incident has drawn attention to the need for stricter regulation and enforcement in the region’s sand transportation industry.
