  • Villagers report recurring elephant threat and crop damage

JAMSHEDPUR – A young technician died after a sudden elephant attack in Gumla, triggering fear among villagers.

A 28-year-old man died after a wild elephant attack in Gumla district. The incident occurred in Burhu Patra under Ghaghra police limits.

Meanwhile, the victim was identified as Anoop Kumar Pandey. He worked as a technician at the Burhu power grid.

According to family members, he was travelling for electrical work. He stopped near Patra after noticing a crowd.

However, a wild elephant suddenly emerged from nearby bushes. It attacked him without warning, causing panic.

As a result, villagers ran in different directions to save themselves. The युवक died on the spot due to severe injuries.

Meanwhile, forest officials reached the site after receiving information. Officials including Birsa Lohra and others assessed the situation.

They provided ₹25,000 as immediate relief to the family. Moreover, they assured full compensation after paperwork completion.

On the other hand, police sent the body for postmortem. The examination is being conducted at Gumla sadar hospital.

Villagers said elephants frequently move through the area. These movements often damage crops and houses.

Moreover, locals claimed no permanent solution has been implemented. They continue to face repeated threats.

Forest officials are now tracking the elephant’s movement. This step aims to prevent further incidents.

Meanwhile, Gumla forest officer Belal Ahmed issued a warning. He urged people to maintain distance from wild elephants.

In recent years, human-elephant conflicts have increased across Ranchi and nearby regions. Such incidents often lead to fatalities and property loss.

Experts say shrinking forest areas push elephants into villages. This raises risks of encounters and sudden attacks.
