400 Fruit-Bearing Saplings Distributed Free in Sakchi on World Environment Day

Pappu Sardar Ties Tree-Planting Drive to Madhuri Dixit’s New Netflix Film ‘Maa Behen’

Key Points:

  • Pappu Sardar distributes 400 free fruit saplings at Sakchi Bazar on June 5
  • Drive themed ‘Ek Ped Maa-Behen ke Naam’ inspired by Madhuri Dixit’s new film
  • Mango, guava, lemon, orange and jamun saplings given to Jamshedpur residents

JAMSHEDPUR — On the occasion of World Environment Day, social activist and Madhuri Dixit fan Pappu Sardar distributed around 400 fruit-bearing saplings free of cost at Sakchi Bazar’s Handi Line, in front of Manohar Chaat Shop, on Thursday.

The drive was themed “Ek Ped Maa-Behen ke Naam” — a tree in the name of one’s mother and sister. Pappu Sardar said the initiative was inspired by actress Madhuri Dixit’s new crime-comedy film Maa Behen, which released on the OTT platform Netflix on Thursday, June 4.

The saplings distributed included varieties of mango, guava, lemon, orange and jamun. Sardar appealed to people to plant at least one sapling each in honour of their mothers and sisters. He added that trees not only help maintain environmental balance but also ensure a clean and healthy atmosphere for future generations.

Word of the event had been shared on social media a day earlier. A large number of people turned up to collect the free saplings. Those present at the event appreciated the environment conservation initiative in Jamshedpur and pledged to plant the saplings in their homes and neighbourhoods.

Sardar said he intended to organise similar public-interest and environment-friendly programmes in the future as well. The event took place in the heart of Jamshedpur‘s busy Sakchi market area, drawing a steady stream of participants throughout the morning.

World Environment Day is observed globally on June 5 each year. The United Nations launched the day in 1972 to encourage awareness and action for the protection of the environment. India has been an active participant in the annual observance, with events held across cities and towns.
