MLA Saryu Roy Addresses Media’s Role in Democracy at JJA Function

The new Jharkhand Journalist Association committee stresses the importance of impartial journalism in modern democracy.

RANCHI – The newly formed state committee of the Jharkhand Journalist Association (JJA) was officially welcomed in a grand ceremony at the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly Auditorium.

Chief speaker and MLA Saryu Roy adorned the committee members with garlands and bouquets, including the new state president, Sampurnanand Bharti.

This event was marked by the presence of distinguished guests such as Chandan Mishra, the state in-charge and journalist, senior journalist Shyam Kishore Choubey, JJA founder Shahnawaz Hasan, and Election Commission officer Sanjay Pandey.

A seminar discussing the media’s role in upholding fair elections in Indian democracy was a highlight of the occasion.

MLA Saryu Roy, addressing the seminar, emphasized the evolving role of media and the challenges of maintaining journalistic impartiality amidst political and social changes.

He stressed the importance of adhering to principles for true impartiality in journalism.

Sanjay Pandey from the Jharkhand State Election Commission elaborated on the media’s role, underscoring the necessity for journalists to stay informed and updated, especially with resources provided online by the Election Commission.

Senior journalist Shyam Kishore Choubey spoke about the need for journalists to have equal facilities to ensure impartiality, citing the challenges faced in Jharkhand.

Chandan Mishra, the state in-charge of JJA, highlighted the media’s responsibility for impartial reporting in the upcoming parliamentary and state assembly elections.

Shahnawaz Hasan, the organization’s founder and national general secretary, moderated the forum, outlining the challenges faced by journalists and the efforts of JJA to address these issues.

State President Sampurnanand Bharti concluded the event with a vote of thanks, urging unity among journalists and acknowledging the significant contributions of Chandan Mishra, Shahnawaz Hasan, and Lalan Pandey to the organization.

A large turnout of journalists from across the state was noted, reflecting the importance of the event in the journalistic community of Jharkhand.
