Supriyo Bhattacharya criticizes EC’s decision, links it to FIR against MP Nishikant Dubey
JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya has raised concerns over the transfer of Deoghar SP Ajit Peter Dungdung, questioning the impartiality of the Election Commission in a press conference.
RANCHI – Supriyo Bhattacharya, the general secretary of JMM, has criticized the transfer of Deoghar SP Ajit Peter Dungdung, suggesting that the move was a result of an FIR registered against Godda MP Nishikant Dubey at Jasidih police station.
Bhattacharya asserted that the case registered against Dubey would not be stopped by the transfer of the SP, and questioned Dubey’s role as a spokesperson for the ED and now the Election Commission.
He warned that if such unilateral decisions are taken, it would raise questions about the impartiality of the Election Commission.
The Election Commission in Jharkhand took major action on Tuesday, removing Deoghar SP Ajit Peter Dungdung from his post and seeking a panel from the state government for the new SP.
According to information, the decision was prompted by an FIR lodged against MP Nishikant Dubey by accused Shivdutt Sharma, who is absconding in three cases, at Jasidih police station on March 28.
The Election Commission had raised concerns about how an absconding accused could reach the police station and lodge an FIR, and the Deoghar SP’s removal was also linked to other allegations, including sending a disabled person to jail.
Supriyo Bhattacharya’s statements highlight the growing tensions between political parties and the Election Commission, with the JMM questioning the impartiality of the commission’s decisions.
The transfer of the Deoghar SP has sparked a debate about the independence of the Election Commission and its role in ensuring free and fair elections.
As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the Election Commission will respond to the allegations and concerns raised by the JMM and other political parties.
The incident underscores the need for transparency and accountability in the decision-making processes of the Election Commission to maintain public trust in the electoral system.
