JAMSHEDPUR – The District Tobacco Control and Monitoring Committee met online, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri.
The meeting focused on reviewing effective tobacco control measures.
Under the National Tobacco Control Programme, various awareness initiatives like training, cessation centers, street plays, and publicity campaigns were assessed.
Deputy Commissioner Bhajantri highlighted the serious health issues caused by tobacco consumption.
He pointed out the high tobacco use among youth, particularly those above 8th grade, and the risk of future diseases.
Bhajantri urged the youth to avoid tobacco and encourage peers to do the same.
He emphasized the role of public awareness in complementing strict tobacco control laws.
The meeting stressed educating young people about tobacco’s ill effects.
Regular raids against tobacco law violations were ordered, with instructions for strict action against rule-breakers.
Officials from the education department were directed to spread awareness about tobacco’s harmful impacts among students.
Signage boards under the COTPA Act 2003 are to be displayed at the entrances of government offices.
Participants included Deputy Development Commissioner Manish Kumar, SDM Dhalbhum Piyush Sinha, Civil Surgeon Dr. Jujhar Majhi, and other key officials.
