Kurmi Sena Protests for Amit Mahato’s Release, Burns CM’s Effigy

In Jamshedpur, the Kurmi Sena demands the release of arrested former MLA Amit Mahto, burning an effigy of CM Hemant Soren.

JAMSHEDPUR – Following the recent arrest of former MLA Amit Mahto, the Kurmi community has expressed their outrage.

As a show of their anger, the Kurmi Sena set an effigy of State Chief Minister Hemant Soren ablaze at Sakchi Gol Chakkar in Jamshedpur.

Along with this protest, they demanded the immediate release of Amit Mahto and warned of a fierce movement if their demands are not met.

Amit Mahto, an a politician from Jharkhand and ex-member of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly, won the Vidhan Sabha election in 2014 from Silli.

He was a part of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and was often regarded as the face of youth in the Jharkhand Political Party.

However, Amit Mahto resigned from the party and formed the Khatiyani Jharkhandi Party on 6th April 2022, accusing the leadership of neglecting the interests of the local people of Jharkhand.

The former MLA had lost his assembly membership following a lower court’s orders.

He later petitioned the Jharkhand High Court for a review of the decision.

Upon hearing the petition, Justices S Chandrashekhar and Ratnakar Bhengra reduced the sentence of former MLA Amit Mahto to one year, enabling him to contest in elections.

This decision, made before the 2024 elections, is seen as a considerable relief to the former MLA.
