Pooja, your medal calls for celebrations, not an apology: PM
New Delhi: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has encouraged Pooja Gehlot after she got emotional and expressed regret for not being able to win the Gold medal.
She won a Bronze medal in the Women’s 50 Kg Freestyle Wrestling in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022. She defeated Christine Lemofack Letchidjio of Scotland at the Coventry Arena Wrestling Mat B on Aug 06.
Speaking about her achievement, “I apologize to my compatriots. I wished that the National Anthem be played here… But I will learn from my mistakes, and work on them.”
Responding to a tweet shared by ANI in which wrestler, Pooja Gehlot got emotional post winning Bronze Medal in women’s 50 Kg Freestyle wrestling, the Prime Minister encouraged Pooja Gehlot for her bright future ahead.
The Prime Minister tweeted:
“Pooja, your medal calls for celebrations, not an apology. Your life journey motivates us, your success gladdens us. You are destined for great things ahead…keep shining! ️
Earlier, the PM also congratulated Sonal Patel for winning the Bronze Medal in Para Table Tennis at Birmingham CWG 2022.
In a tweet, Prime Minister said;
“When talent, temperament and tenacity combine, nothing is impossible. Sonal Patel has shown this in letter and spirit by winning a Bronze medal in Para Table Tennis. Congratulations to her. I pray that she continues to distinguish herself in the coming times. #Cheer4India”
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has extended best wishes to Bhavina Patel too for clinching the prestigious Gold Medal in Para Table Tennis at Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022.
The PM is known for personally keeping an eye on the progress of athletes and players and has been appreciated by the athletes themselves for the extraordinary support to sportsmen even when they do not perform very well in international competitions.
