Transgender Visibility Day celebrated in Jamshedpur

Transgenders also expressed happiness at the initiatives taken by Tata Steel to provide them better opportunities by offering them permanent jobs.

Jamshedpur: Led by Utthan, an organisation devoted to uplift of transgenders, scores of persons of third gender assembled at Sakchi Roundabout and celebrated Transgender Day of Visibility with gaity and aplomb.

They also carried out a signature campaign in support of their community on the occasion.

During this, the transgenders said that it has been proven beyond doubt that persons of third gender are no less in physical and intellectual prowess in any area of life and career.

The transgenders also expressed their happiness at the initiatives taken by Tata Steel to provide them better opportunities by offering them jobs.

They said that Tata Steel, that is originally based in Jamshedpur, and now has several locations outside the city too, had employed at least 12 transgenders earlier on permanent basis and 50 more transgenders are in the process of selection for different posts in the company.

They thanked the Tata Steel management and appealed to everyone to stand with the transgender community by appending their signature during the signature campaign.

A large number of passersby appended their signature enthusiastically to the cloth being carried by them and expressed solidarity with the persons of third gender.
