Jal Sahias Demand Better Conditions in Chaibasa Protest

Water Workers Stage Dharna at Minister’s Residence, Submit 5-Point Memorandum

Jharkhand State Jal Sahia Sangh advocates for improved compensation and job security for essential water service providers.

CHAIBASA – Jal Sahias from multiple blocks in the Chaibasa assembly constituency staged a protest on Sunday, presenting a five-point memorandum to Minister Deepak Birua at his residence.

The demonstration, organized by the Jharkhand State Jal Sahia Sangh, saw participation from water workers of Sadar, Jhinkpani, Hatgamharia, and Tonto blocks.

Key demands included in the memorandum were:

1. Increase in honorarium to Rs. 18,000
2. Compassionate benefits for service-related deaths
3. Insurance coverage up to Rs. 20 lakhs
4. Priority in departmental appointments based on seniority and merit
5. Job security until the age of 65

“We’re seeking fair compensation for our essential work,” stated Munni Bari, a participating Jal Sahia. “Our role in water sanitation is crucial for community health.”

The protesters also urged the government to prioritize Jal Sahias for water sanitation projects instead of outsourcing to contractors.

Minister Birua assured the demonstrators that their concerns would be considered and addressed promptly.

The protest highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by Jharkhand’s water workers and their push for improved working conditions and recognition.
