In a recent meeting at the Collectorate Auditorium, the adult BCG vaccination campaign was unveiled, set to run from July to September.
Key stakeholders including District Council President Bari Murmu, Deputy Development Commissioner Manish Kumar, Civil Surgeon Dr. Jujhar Majhi, and other district officials participated in the meeting.
Deputy Development Commissioner Manish Kumar provided crucial guidelines on structuring the vaccination campaign.
He stressed the need for robust public awareness campaigns and the importance of creating detailed plans in Block Task Force meetings.
Emphasizing the significance of the BCG vaccine, traditionally given to children, Dr. Jujhar Majhi detailed its expanded use for adults to curb TB’s spread.
The district will conduct a large-scale survey to identify areas with current TB patients and those at high risk, with vaccinations starting on July 1.
The adult BCG vaccination campaign will target six categories of individuals over 18, including those previously affected by TB, individuals in close contact with TB patients, elderly persons, malnourished adults, smokers, and diabetic patients.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed all involved departments to actively contribute to the survey and vaccination efforts.
A comprehensive public awareness campaign will be launched to educate residents about the benefits and necessity of the BCG vaccination.
District Council President Bari Murmu emphasized the shift from traditional vaccination practices to this new adult-focused approach, ensuring full cooperation from Panchayat representatives.
The campaign aims to identify and protect TB patients across the district through meticulous monitoring and collaboration.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Jujhar Majhi highlighted the importance of the BCG vaccine in preventing TB and detailed the campaign’s objectives.
Block Development Officers joined the meeting via video conferencing, ensuring comprehensive district-wide coordination.
Manish Kumar highlighted the availability of free TB treatments at government health centers and the need to raise awareness among those who may not seek treatment due to a lack of information.
The Civil Surgeon was tasked with ensuring a strong vaccine maintenance system and providing clear instructions to dispel public confusion regarding the vaccination.
