Residents Protest Illegal Tree Felling in Telco Area of Jamshedpur

Forest Department faces criticism for alleged inaction

Residents of the Telco area in Jamshedpur have raised concerns over the illegal felling of trees, with the Forest Department facing criticism for its alleged inaction.

JAMSHEDPUR – The issue came to light when the management of JEMCO Ground in the Telco area cut down trees that had been planted over 40 years ago near Mishra Garden.

Local resident Karandeep Singh expressed dismay, stating that illegal tree-cutting is an ongoing problem in the area. He mentioned that this issue has been repeatedly brought to the attention of the Forest Department.

Despite these complaints, five trees were uprooted on Wednesday, prompting outrage from the community.

Community Outrage and Protests

The situation escalated on Wednesday when residents staged a protest, ultimately managing to save a mango tree from being cut down. The incident has highlighted the growing tension between environmental concerns and development priorities in the area.

Calls for Action and Environmental Impact

Singh lamented the Forest Department’s lack of action against the illegal felling of trees, warning that the area’s condition will deteriorate further as temperatures continue to rise. He urged the Forest Department to take cognizance of the matter and address the issue promptly.

Residents have expressed concern over the potential environmental impact of indiscriminate tree-cutting, emphasizing the importance of preserving green spaces and maintaining ecological balance. They have called for stricter enforcement of regulations and better oversight by the Forest Department to prevent further illegal tree felling.

Broader Discussion on Sustainable Development

The incident has sparked a broader discussion on sustainable development practices and the need to strike a balance between urban growth and environmental preservation. Local authorities and environmental organizations have been urged to take proactive measures to address the issue and ensure that the city’s green cover is maintained for the benefit of present and future generations.
