Prominent Figures Cast Ballots in Singhbhum Amid High Voter Turnout
Amidst concerns of Maoist violence, prominent political figures from Kolhan, including Chief Minister Champai Soren, former CM Madhu Koda, and Union Minister Arjun Munda, actively participated in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, demonstrating the region’s commitment to democratic processes.
SERAIKELA – In Singhbhum, a reserved constituency for Scheduled Tribes, political enthusiasm was palpable as key leaders, alongside the electorate, turned up early to vote.
The constituency saw a strong voter turnout, with 12.70 percent of the electorate having voted by 9 am on Monday.
Chief Minister Champai Soren voted at Utkramit Madhya Vidyalaya in Jilinggora, Seraikela-Kharsawan, advocating for robust participation in the electoral process.
Former CM Madhu Koda and his wife, BJP candidate Geeta Koda, also participated, underscoring their continued influence in local politics.
Union Minister Arjun Munda, representing the Khunti Lok Sabha seat, cast his vote at the Khalarisai booth number 72, accompanied by his wife Meera Munda.
India alliance candidate Joba Manjhi and MLA Sukhram Oraon made their votes count in Chakradharpur and Banmalipur respectively, highlighting grassroots involvement.
Minister Deepak Biruwa, along with his wife, voted in Sindrigauri, Hatgamharia, emphasizing the family’s role in governance.
The Election Commission had meticulously prepared for the event, setting up 7,595 polling booths and deploying over 30,380 personnel to ensure a smooth and secure voting process.
Enhanced security measures, including webcasting and the installation of 15,000 4D cameras, were employed to maintain transparency and integrity in the elections.
Singhbhum’s strategic importance was evidenced by its substantial electorate of 14.32 lakh voters, with significant female representation. Geeta Koda, aiming to retain her seat, represents the region’s dynamic political landscape, reflecting a shift from her previous affiliation with the Congress to the BJP.
