Tata Steel Named Steel Sustainability Champion for Seventh Year
Tata Steel continues its streak as a Steel Sustainability Champion, recognized by worldsteel for its unwavering commitment to sustainable practices.
JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel has been awarded the Steel Sustainability Champion 2024 title by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), marking its seventh consecutive year of recognition since the program’s inception in 2018.
The company is among 11 global steel producers to receive this accolade at worldsteel’s April Special General Meeting, affirming its position as a leader in sustainable steel production.
T. V. Narendran, CEO & MD of Tata Steel, highlighted the company’s holistic approach to sustainability, emphasizing its ongoing efforts in environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and governance.
In his remark, he said: "We are honoured to be recognised once again as a Steel Sustainability Champion by the World Steel Association. This acknowledgment underscores Tata Steel’s commitment to sustainability across all facets of its operations.”
He further added: “We remain dedicated to driving positive change within the steel industry and beyond, as we continue to prioritise environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and sound governance practices."
To be deemed a Sustainability Champion, companies must adhere to worldsteel’s stringent criteria, including a commitment to the Sustainability Charter and excelling in various sustainability indicators.
Tata Steel’s notable contributions include participation in worldsteel’s Climate Action program, expertise in life cycle assessment (LCA), and a commendable A- rating in climate disclosure from CDP in 2023.
worldsteel represents a significant portion of the global steel industry, advocating for sustainable practices and innovation among its members, which account for approximately 85% of worldwide steel production.
