Tata Steel concluded its Sustainability Month 2024 with a grand event, Satva 2, at Steelennium Hall in Jamshedpur on July 3, 2024, themed "The Resonance of Life Continues."

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel celebrated the culmination of its Sustainability Month 2024 with an impactful event titled Satva 2, focusing on the theme "The Resonance of Life Continues."

Held at Steelennium Hall in Jamshedpur on July 3, 2024, the event highlighted Tata Steel’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and its vision for a greener future.

Launch of India’s First Carbon Bank

A key announcement during the event was the launch of India’s first Carbon Bank, a virtual repository designed to measure and manage carbon dioxide savings from various sustainability projects.

The Carbon Bank aims to turn carbon dioxide into a value-creating asset, with potential revenue generated from these savings being reinvested into further decarbonization efforts.

Leadership Speaks

Rajiv Mangal, Vice President of Safety, Health & Sustainability at Tata Steel, remarked, "In the face of mounting global concerns about sustainability, Tata Steel has taken proactive steps to spearhead carbon abatement initiatives as part of its unwavering commitment to sustainability across environmental, societal, and business domains. The Carbon Bank is one such tangible commitment to driving sustainability within the organization."

Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary, President of the Tata Workers’ Union, added, "Sustainability is not just a corporate responsibility but a collective duty that we all share as a community."

Future Plans and Innovation

Saurabh Kundu, Chief Corporate Sustainability at Tata Steel, outlined the company’s commitment to sustainability and its future plans, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and innovation.

He mentioned the month-long programme with the Innoventure team, which scouted promising sustainability startups.

The closing ceremony successfully brought together stakeholders from across the community to celebrate sustainability and discuss the way forward.

Engaging the Community

The event featured a panel discussion on the legacy of Jamsetji Tata, the Founder of Tata Steel, and his vision for Jamshedpur.

Students from JH Tarapore School, Jusco School South Park, and KSMS Golmuri showcased their interpretation of sustainability through a skit, playing a central role in the event.

The event was telecast live across all Tata Steel locations, with employees participating in large numbers.

Winners of various categories based on sustainability parameters were also recognized during the event.
