Indian Railways veteran Abhay Kumar Gupta takes on the role of Senior Deputy General Manager for South Eastern Railway, bringing decades of diverse expertise.
DESK – Garden Reach, Kolkata, marks a new chapter in its history as seasoned Indian Railways professional Abhay Kumar Gupta assumes the role of Senior Deputy General Manager for South Eastern Railway on July 31.
Prior to this appointment, Gupta, an Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE) officer from the 1989 batch, has served the railways in diverse capacities, contributing significantly to various civil engineering, track, and bridge projects.
A sports and railway heritage enthusiast, Gupta has had a colorful career journey, traversing multiple roles and regions.
He held key positions such as Chief Engineer (C) of Central Railway, Chief Track Engineer, North Western Railway, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, North Western Railway, Jodhpur Division, Chief Engineer (Construction), North Central Railway, and Secretary to General Manager, North Central Railway, Allahabad.
In addition, Gupta has served as Deputy Chief Engineer (Construction), Bhubaneswar, Senior Divisional Engineer/Central/Khurda Road, and Professor (Track), Kanpur.
A civil engineering graduate from HBTI, Kanpur, Gupta commenced his railway journey in 1993 as an Assistant Divisional Engineer at Umaria, Bilaspur branch of then-South Eastern Railway.
He has amassed significant management experience with third- and double-line megaprojects during his tenure at Indian Railways.
Adding to his credentials, Gupta has undergone professional training at prominent railway institutions such as the National Academy of Indian Railways in Vadodara, the Indian Railways Institute of Civil Engineering in Pune, the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad, INSEAD in Singapore, and ICLIF in Malaysia.
Before his current assignment, he was the Divisional Railway Manager, South Central Railway, Secunderabad.
