Jharkhand High Court Grants Bail to BJP Leader Abhay Singh, Others
In relation to the Kadma communal disturbance case, local BJP leader Abhay Singh and others secure bail from the Jharkhand High Court.
JAMSHEDPUR – The Jharkhand High Court, today, approved the bail application of local BJP leader Abhay Singh and others in the case relating to communal disturbance incident that occurred in Shastri Nagar, Kadma.
Despite securing bail, Singh’s release is unlikely due to a separate case related to the Jugsalai disturbance case, for which the police have filed charges and have kickstarted court proceedings.
The court verdict granting bail was given by Justice SN Prasad and Justice Subhash Chand. Abhay Singh, currently in Ghaghidih Central Jail, and over 30 other accused individuals were part of this bail approval. Singh’s defense included senior High Court advocates RS Majumdar and Rohan Majumdar, while the state government was represented by advocate Bholanath Ojha.
The Trail of Events
On April 10th, a disturbance took place in Shastri Nagar under Kadma police station, where a youth opened fire during tension between two communities.
This event escalated rapidly, causing significant unrest and leading to numerous injuries, including policemen. Consequently, Section 144 was imposed in the affected area, and internet services were temporarily suspended.
Subsequent Legal Proceedings
Post the disturbance, the police lodged a case against 119 named individuals and approximately 1200 unidentified persons, including BJP leader Abhay Singh.
They were subsequently arrested and imprisoned.
Singh had filed a bail petition in the Jharkhand High Court after his bail application was rejected by the lower court.
The court was informed of Singh’s alleged involvement in the conspiracy to incite violence, as per the case diary.
Support from BJP Leaders
Several political figures visited Abhay Singh at Ghaghidih Central Jail, including Union Minister Arjun Munda, former Chief Minister Raghubar Das, Babulal Marandi, MPs Bidyut Baran Mahato and Deepak Prakash, and others.
BJP leaders had assured Singh of their full support and promised to ensure justice and his early release from jail.
