Ranchi Court Grants Relief to Independent Candidate Jairam Mahto

Coercive Action Stayed Till June 10 in 2022 Case

In a significant development, the Ranchi court has provided much-needed relief to Jairam Mahto, an independent candidate from Giridih, by staying coercive action against him until June 10.

RANCHI – Jairam Mahto, a prominent figure and leader of the JBKSS (Jharkhand Bhumi Kranti Sena Simiti), has been granted a temporary reprieve by the Ranchi court in connection with a case registered in 2022 at the Nagdi police station in Ranchi.

During the court hearing, Mahto’s advocate sought additional time for the debate, which the court granted, extending the order against coercive action until June 10.

The case is now scheduled for further hearing on June 10.

Warrant Issued in 2022 Case

The immediate relief comes in response to a warrant that was issued against Mahto in case number 48, registered in 2022 at the Nagdi police station.

Ranchi police had attempted to arrest the JBKSS leader, popularly known as "Tiger Jairam" among his supporters, in Bokaro and Giridih but were unsuccessful in their efforts.

Mahto is currently contesting the Lok Sabha elections from the Giridih constituency.

Police Arrive During Nomination Filing

Earlier, when Mahto had reached Bokaro to file his nomination papers, a police team from Ranchi arrived at the scene to apprehend him.

However, Mahto reportedly told the police that he had to address a public meeting and requested them to allow him to proceed with his scheduled event.

He allegedly stated that if the police wanted to arrest him, they could do so after the public meeting.

The court’s decision to stay coercive action against Jairam Mahto until June 10 has provided him with a temporary respite.

The case’s progress and its potential impact on Mahto’s political journey will be closely watched as the court prepares to hear the matter further on June 10.
