Jharkhand High Court adjourns hearing till July 6 in a case of rape and prostitution involving 22 accused including a politician’s brother.
JAMSHEDPUR – A hearing was held in the Jharkhand High Court on the petition filed by the accused in a high-profile case of rape and prostitution.
During the hearing on Tuesday, the petitioners requested additional time to present their side.
The court, accepting this, has scheduled the next hearing for July 6.
The case was presided over by Justice Sanjay Prasad.
Currently, the High Court has upheld a stay order on the proceedings of the lower court.
22 individuals, including a prominent politician’s brother, are accused in this case.
The lower court of Jamshedpur has issued summons to all the accused, who have responded by filing a petition in the High Court.
A FIR was lodged under the POCSO Act against several individuals at Mango police station by the mother of the victim.
In the FIR, it was alleged that her daughter was violated by Indrapal Saini, Shiv Kumar Mahato, and Shrikant Mahato, and the act was filmed.
The accused are said to have used the video to intimidate the victim into prostitution.
The police arrested all three accused and sent them to jail.
However, Shrikant Mahato was later granted bail.
Indrapal Saini and Shiv Kumar Mahato remain in Ghaghidih Jail.
The victim later revealed to the police that she was also raped by others and named at least two police officers and a brother of an important politician.
She alleged that she was violated by numerous individuals at various locations in Jamshedpur.
Three people were sentenced on January 22, 2022, and action is being taken against 22 others.
Now, the HC will hear the case on July 6.
