Fatal Scooter Accident Leads to Outrage Over Deteriorating Traffic System in Seraikela

A fatal road accident occurred in Seraikela on Tuesday afternoon, leading to local concern over lax traffic management and oversight. Shyam Chandra Das, a 55-year-old resident of Krishnapur, Rajnagar, was killed when his electric scooter was hit by a truck.

SERAIKELA – A horrific road accident occurred near the Seraikela petrol pump turn on the Seraikela-Rajnagar bypass main road under the Seraikela police station’s jurisdiction on Tuesday afternoon.

Shyam Chandra Das, a 55-year-old electric scooter driver, was tragically killed on the spot when a truck with the license plate BR02AA-1962, coming from Tata, collided with him.

The impact was so severe that Das’s head was gravely crushed, and his scooter got stuck under the truck, dragging for about 2 kilometers.

The truck driver subsequently fled the scene, leaving the truck parked at Kalapathar, about 2 kilometers from the accident spot.

Seraikela police station in-charge Nitish Kumar reached the scene and confiscated the truck, bringing it back to the police station for further investigation.

Witnesses and local leaders voiced their concerns over the deteriorating traffic system in the district. BJP leader Manoj Kumar Chaudhary, who visited the accident scene and the local hospital, expressed his condolences and urged for restraint on the roads.

Sanand Acharya, a representative of Seraikela MLA, called for truck drivers to control their speed to avoid such accidents in the future.

Meanwhile, local residents demanded the incident be treated as a hit and run case, highlighting the fact that overloaded vehicles are being driven recklessly, and the traffic department officers are showing negligence and inaction towards improving the district’s traffic situation.
