RANCHI – Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi is set to introduce a series of changes to its vehicle movement and parking arrangements from May 1, to combat rising congestion issues.

In an effort to alleviate congestion around the passenger terminal, the airport management has designated additional parking for 350 vehicles in front of the old terminal building.

Key changes include extending the free parking duration for private vehicles from 8 to 10 minutes and implementing an automatic system for parking charges in the future.

In collaboration with the district administration, the airport is also setting measures to address unauthorized parking.

Significant modifications to the traffic flow have been planned; the entry route within the airport premises will now function as the exit, aiming to streamline vehicle movements.

Additionally, the maximum free time for pickup and drop-off at the terminal building is capped at 5 minutes, which is part of the overall 10-minute free parking allowance.

For extended stays, parking fees have been structured as Rs 10 per hour for four-wheelers and Rs 5 per hour for two-wheelers, after the initial two hours. For parking durations from seven to 24 hours, a fixed fee calculated at a 300 percent slab rate will be applied.

The revised setup features three lanes in front of the terminal building. Lane one allows for 10 minutes of free parking for private vehicles. Vehicles that exceed the allotted time in lane two will incur a charge of Rs 30, while lane three is designated for commercial vehicles with fees based on parking duration.
