Jamshedpur bids tearful farewell to its daughter Ritu Mukhi, thousands attend last rites

Job assurance for mother in school, Admn to meet the expenses of the education of siblings, to provide government facilities

Jamshedpur: The city bid a tearful farewell to its daughter Ritu Mukhi on Friday. Thousands thronged the funeral procession and showed their love for the girl, who touched everyone’s heart in the city during the last six days she has been struggling for life in TMH.

She ultimately lost the battle. But, in her loss, she highlighted the plight of those children who have to undergo excruciating emotional pain due to distortions in the education system.

On Friday, people gathered in large numbers to attend the funeral procession of class IX student of Shardamani Girls High School, Ritu Mukhi.

When the funeral procession started, everyone was teary eyed.

The funeral procession started from Chhaya Nagar and went to Mango Swarnarekha Burning Ghat,  where cremation took place.

The relatives of the Ritu Mukhi’s family appreciated the efforts of the district administration and the Jharkhand government.

They also expressed deep condolences on the death of the girl student.

The school management has also assured to give job to the girl’s mother in the school.

The members of Mukhi Samaj reacted sharply to the act of the teacher.

They also demanded that the district administration ensure that in future such incidents don’t recur to any student.

It may be recalled that the deceased student of class IX of Shardamani High School, Ritu Mukhi, was allegedly checked by the teacher after she was suspected of cheating. She was allegedly made to strip for checking.

This hurt Ritu Mukhi so much that after returning home she set herself on fire.

After the incident, the district administration came forward with all possible help and ensure that the best possible treatment was provided to the girl.

The Chief Minister Hemant Soren too promised all help in treatment.

But destiny had something else in mind.

Late Thursday night, Ritu died in Tata Main Hospital.

Earlier, the accused teacher had been arrested and sent to judicial custody.

While, the principal of the school too has been suspended.

The Deputy Commissioner has assured that all help would be provided to provide education expenses to the siblings of the deceased student.

Ritu Mukhi’s sad demise has highlighted the anomalies in the entire education system and the attitude of teachers who treat examination as the main focus of education.

Ritu Mukhi’s demise has also hightlighted the fact that more than physically, children are extremely vulnerable emotionally too.

And Ritu Mukhi’s death has left everyone with a question – whether eliminating corporal punishment is the end-all for the education system.

Is eliminating even emotional punishment not necessary in schools?

Also, whether any examination is more important than a child’s well-being itself.
