Another adolescent drowns in Kharkai at Bagbera Baroda Ghat

On Thursday, Prince, along with four of his former school friends, went to the river bank at Bagbera Baroda Ghat and drowned while taking a bath.

Jamshedpur: The dead body of 17-year-old Prince Kumar Gupta, who drowned in Kharkai river at Baroda Ghat under the jurisdiction of Bagbeda police station of Jamshedpur, was found by a 16-member NDRF team from Ranchi after a lot of efforts.

The deceased had arrived at Kharkai river bank at Baroda Ghat with his four friends from Burmamines. He drowned while bathing.

Prince Kumar Gupta, 17, had taken the matriculation exam in his village near Allahabad. Only 4 days back he had passed the matriculation examination with 64%.

After writing the examination, he had come to live with his father at Inder Singh Colony, Burmamines, Jamshedpur.

His father works as a security guard in a private company.

On Thursday, Prince along with four former school friends came to bathe in the river at Bagbera Baroda Ghat and drowned while taking a bath.

Seeing the Prince drowning, two of his companions ran away from the place.

Meanwhile, two other accomplices informed the local police, after which the Bagbera police reached the site and tried to locate Prince with the help of local divers.

However, their efforts failed.

Later, the NDRF team was called from Ranchi Dhurwa on the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner.

A 16-member NDRF team arrived at Baroda Ghat and found the dead body.

Later, the officer-in-charge of Bagbera police station, KK Jha, said that the body of 17-year-old Prince Kumar Gupta has been taken out and has been sent for post mortem.

Several people have drowned at Baroda Ghat while taking a bath in the river. The river bank is rocky and at places the river water is quite deep.

The locals have been urging the administration to take up steps to ensure that unaware visitors are adequately warned about the dangers of taking a bath in the river.

During the last few years, several lives have been lost and most of the people who drowned were adolescents.
