IMA Jamshedpur urges Govt to not implement Clinical Establishment Act in Jharkhand

Jamshedpur: Dr. Umesh Khan, president, Indian Medical Association Jamshedpur Chapter has urged the Hemant Soren government to keep the Clinical Establishment Act in abeyance in Jharkhand and not to implement it.

He said that the central government while implementing the Act a few years back had given the state governments the discretion of bringing about changes in the Act or not implementing it, if any state government felt that there was no need to do so.

Dr. Khan said that the Act was not implemented in Jharkhand for several years. However, the Health Secretary has recently issued notice to everyone concerned in the state to get their entities registered before January 31.

He said that IMA feels that Jharkhand has a large number of people who live below poverty line. He said that if the Act is followed in toto, then it would not be possible to treat the poor patients in small clinics.

He said that to follow the Act, the clinics would have to expand their available space and this is not possible for all the clinics.

He said that the Act has several rules that would be difficult to abide by for any doctor.

He appealed to the state government to keep the Act in abeyance and not implement it in the state keeping the larger interests of the people in mind.
