CHAIBASA – Jharkhand Director General of Police Thadasha Mishra visited Chaibasa on Saturday to review the security situation in Saranda.

The DGP reached the district headquarters during the day. She assessed developments following recent security operations.

She was accompanied by IG Operations Saket Kumar. Meanwhile, Jaguar DIG Indrajeet Mahatha was also present.

IPS officers Anoop Birthare and Nathu Singh Meena attended the visit. Senior CRPF officers joined the review.

On arrival in Chaibasa, the DGP was given a ceremonial guard of honour. However, the visit remained focused on security assessment.

During the review, officials briefed the DGP on Operation Meghaburu. The operation was conducted in Saranda forests earlier.

The joint operation continued for two days. It lasted nearly thirty-five hours in difficult terrain.

Seventeen Maoist cadres were killed during the operation. A senior CPI Maoist leader was among them.

Officials reported recovery of fourteen advanced weapons. These included AK-47 and INSAS rifles.

Police officers described the action as Saranda’s largest operation so far. Moreover, they recalled a deadly ambush there decades earlier.

About twenty-five years ago, twenty security personnel were killed in the same region. Therefore, the operation carried symbolic importance.

During the visit, the DGP praised officers and jawans. She acknowledged coordinated efforts of multiple units.

Subsequently, she announced cash incentives. COBRA Battalion received Rs 4 lakh.

District police were awarded Rs 1 lakh. Jaguar team also received Rs 1 lakh.

Addressing the media, the DGP issued a warning. She said remaining naxal elements were under pressure.

She appealed to them to surrender. Otherwise, she warned of continued strict action.

Meanwhile, bodies of the deceased Maoists were brought to Chaibasa Sadar Hospital. Security arrangements were tightened.

Seventeen bodies reached the hospital premises. Additionally, six medical teams were deployed.

Post-mortems will be conducted under magistrate supervision. Videography will document the process.

Barricades restricted public movement near the post-mortem house. Consequently, security forces maintained strict vigilance.

Related developments include Saranda review, Chaibasa encounter, IED blast, weapon seizure and IED recovery.
