Key Points:

- Locals rescue girl before attackers flee the scene
GIRIDIH – A minor roadside dispute turned violent in the Bhandaridih locality of Giridih town on Tuesday. Occupants of a speeding car allegedly assaulted a family after being confronted over splashing muddy water from a pothole.
Police said a woman was walking with her son and daughter when the incident occurred. A car sped past a waterlogged pothole nearby.
The vehicle drenched all three pedestrians completely. The woman objected to the reckless driving, prompting several men to step out of the car.
The men allegedly shoved and beat her son. Family members said the situation escalated quickly from there.
According to the complainants, the woman and her daughter tried to intervene. The accused reportedly turned abusive toward them as well.
During the scuffle, the men attempted to force the young woman into their car. Passersby and local residents rushed to the spot after hearing the commotion.
The attackers reportedly abandoned the attempt and fled once bystanders intervened. The girl was rescued unharmed, family members said.
Police reached the location soon after being alerted and began an investigation. Officers said all allegations are being examined based on the victim family’s complaint.
Legal action will follow once the inquiry establishes the facts, police added. Meanwhile, residents in the area have expressed strong anger over the incident.
Locals have demanded swift arrests of those involved. They have also called for stringent action against the accused.
Roadside altercations linked to reckless driving have been reported from other parts of Jharkhand in the past, including cases where disputes escalated into firing. Similarly, assault cases involving minors have prompted police crackdowns elsewhere in the state.
Giridih itself has seen political and social flashpoints in recent years, including visits by leaders such as when BJP’s national president campaigned in the district. Elsewhere in the region, thefts and break-ins have also kept local police occupied in recent months.
Officials noted that armed miscreants have targeted commuters and traders in the wider Kolhan and Santhal Pargana belt before, such as an armed loot on a highway near Chakradharpur. In another case, multiple houses were burgled in a single night in Seraikela district.
Police in Giridih said a case would be registered against the identified accused. Further details are expected once statements from the victim family are formally recorded.
