Truck Driver Held as Hidden Wooden Chamber Yields Ten Sacks of Cannabis

PALAMU – A truck carrying 320 kilograms of cannabis has been intercepted in the district, with the driver arrested and a special team now tracking the syndicate behind the consignment.
The recovery was made under Operation Prahar. The drive targets narcotics trafficking across the district.
IPS officer Divyansh Shukla briefed reporters on the seizure. He also serves as the sub-divisional police officer of Husainabad.
Shukla said a tip-off had reached the police earlier. It indicated that a truck was moving cannabis along the Japla route.
The consignment had originated in Chhattisgarh, according to the information. Bihar was the intended destination.
Moreover, a joint team was formed soon after the input arrived. It combined Husainabad police station staff with armed force personnel.
The Palamu team then launched a vehicle checking drive late at night. The exercise was held near Gamharia village on the Chhatarpur main road.
A suspicious truck bearing the number UP-14 FT-6583 was stopped there. Officers searched the vehicle on the spot.
The search revealed a specially built wooden chamber inside. Ten plastic sacks had been concealed within it.
Besides, the sacks together held 320 kilograms of the contraband. Police put its illegal market value at about Rs 1.5 crore.
A drug detection kit was used at the site. The test confirmed that the substance was cannabis.
“The cavity had been built purely to defeat road checks,” Shukla said. He added that the truck was otherwise carrying nothing unusual.
The entire consignment was seized after the test. Legal formalities were completed before samples were sent for FSL examination.
Meanwhile, the driver was identified as Rajesh Yadav, aged 45. He is the son of Shankar Yadav and a resident of Madanpur.
Madanpur falls under the Chhatarpur police station area of the district. Yadav is being sent to judicial custody.
However, the investigation has not stopped with the arrest. Questioning of the accused has produced several leads about the network.
A special investigation team is carrying out continuous raids. Its aim is to expose the full gang and arrest the remaining accused.
Jharkhand has seen a series of comparable actions this year. Police in Baliapur made a cannabis haul of 16 kilograms in June.
In addition, opium and cash were recovered at Bandgaon the same month. Two smugglers were arrested at Tatanagar station in May.
Rail routes have also figured in the enforcement drive. Nearly 88 kilograms of ganja was seized from a Jammu-bound express.
Larger consignments have surfaced outside the state as well. Delhi police dismantled an interstate drug syndicate earlier this month.
Smaller recoveries have continued in the Kolhan belt too. A narcotics crackdown at Jadugoda led to one arrest in July.
