JAMSHEDPUR – Two people were wounded in a landmine blast during Naxal operations in Saranda forest near Chaibasa.
The explosion occurred close to Indkuti jungle between Digha and Tirilponsi. Security forces were conducting an anti-Naxal combing operation at the time.
Suddenly, an improvised explosive device detonated in the area. As a result, two persons sustained injuries in the blast.
One of the injured is a jawan from the elite COBRA battalion. He was first taken to Bisra hospital in Odisha for treatment.
However, due to serious injuries, he is now being airlifted to Ranchi. Specialized medical care will be provided at a Ranchi-based facility.
Meanwhile, the second injured person’s condition is still under observation. Further medical intervention is being arranged.
The region has long been a hotspot for Naxal-related violence and ambushes. Explosive traps like IEDs are common in these remote zones.
Security teams have been intensifying operations in these Maoist-prone pockets. Despite heavy vigilance, such threats persist.
However, as of now, the police have not released an official statement on the incident. But local sources have verified the blast and injuries.
A reliable source stated, “The area is frequently booby-trapped by extremists. Troop movements are high-risk.”
Saranda forest, bordering Odisha and Jharkhand, has seen repeated Naxal attacks. Forces regularly conduct combing operations through the thick jungle.
The blast highlights the challenges faced by troops in extremist-dominated belts. More updates will follow after official confirmation and investigation.
