RANCHI – Tribal communities are set to gather at the Morhabadi ground in Ranchi on Sunday for the Adivasi Ekta Mahajutan rally, organised around concerns tied to the proposed delimitation exercise, political representation and constitutional rights of tribal people.
Organisers said the rally would raise a series of demands, including an increase in assembly seats reserved for Scheduled Tribes and the effective implementation of the PESA law in Fifth Schedule areas.
The rally is also expected to press for stronger tribal political representation in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. Participants will further demand the enforcement of local and domicile-based employment policy across the state.
Protection of tribal land is likely to emerge as another key demand at the gathering. Speakers are expected to call for the abolition of land banks and land pooling schemes, along with a halt to displacement and migration of tribal populations.
Through the Adivasi Ekta Mahajutan rally, Jharkhand’s tribal community intends to convey a clear message. Organisers say they remain alert and will not allow their rights to be taken away.
Former minister Bandhu Tirkey said the rally has been called specifically to address the delimitation issue. He said the tribal community would present various factual analyses on delimitation through a united platform at the gathering.
Tirkey added that the demand for a separate Sarna religious code for tribal communities would also be discussed in detail during the rally. However, he did not elaborate further on the specifics of that discussion.
Meanwhile, the Ranchi administration has made changes to the city’s traffic routes ahead of the rally. Heavy goods vehicles will be barred from entering the city between 6 am and midnight on the day of the event.
Instead of passing through the city, such vehicles will be directed to use the ring road to reach their destinations. The move is aimed at easing congestion during the large gathering.
The rally comes against the backdrop of continuing debate in Ranchi over recruitment exam reforms and student protests that have dominated headlines in recent weeks. Tribal political issues have also featured prominently in the state’s news cycle, including recent remarks by Jharkhand leaders on the mining and minerals bill.
Similar large gatherings addressing tribal rights and land issues have periodically been held in the state capital in the past, drawing participation from multiple political and community organisations.
