RANCHI – A car servicing centre in the Kokar Industrial Area caught fire on Sunday morning, damaging more than half a dozen vehicles parked inside.
The incident occurred under Sadar police station limits in the Jharkhand capital. Panic spread through the locality as flames engulfed the automobile workshop within minutes.
Vehicles brought in for routine servicing stood parked at the centre when the fire broke out. Several cars caught in the blaze were charred beyond recognition.
However, the flames spread rapidly before anyone could intervene. The fire soon turned ferocious, complicating efforts to contain it.
Fire department crews rushed multiple engines to the spot soon after being alerted. Firefighters battled the blaze for a considerable period before gaining partial control.
Meanwhile, dousing operations continued as teams worked to prevent the fire from spreading further. The workshop premises sustained significant damage during the incident.
Initial reports suggest the fire may have originated from an electrical short circuit inside the facility. Officials cautioned that the exact trigger remains unconfirmed at this stage.
“Such workshops often store flammable material, which can make small sparks turn dangerous quickly,” a local resident living near the site said.
Both fire officials and police have launched a joint investigation into the incident. They are examining wiring and safety equipment at the service centre.
In addition, authorities are assessing whether fire safety norms were followed at the premises. Kokar Industrial Area has previously reported similar commercial fire incidents in the past.
On the other hand, no casualties or injuries were reported from Sunday’s fire so far. Officers said the exact financial loss is still being calculated by the workshop owners.
Industrial accidents have raised safety concerns across Jharkhand in recent weeks. A tanker collision near Chandil also caused a fuel leak recently.
Besides that, a separate road accident in Golmuri claimed a life this week. A Kolkata hotel fire case also saw an arrest around the same time.
Moreover, a reactor blast at a Telangana pharma unit killed two people recently. Fire safety compliance at commercial establishments remains under scrutiny following these incidents.
