BOKARO – Police rescued two girls near the railway station on Sunday after they travelled from a village close to Mughalsarai in Uttar Pradesh following a dispute at home. The duo had boarded a train the previous night and reached Bokaro station by morning.
According to information received, both girls belonged to a village near Mughalsarai. They were seen wandering outside the station after their arrival, prompting concern among locals in the area.
Headquarters DSP Pawan Kumar received information about the girls loitering outside the station. Balidih police station personnel swiftly acted on the input, bringing the two girls to the station and informing their families of the development.
DSP Pawan Kumar said the two girls had left home following a family dispute and boarded a train without a clear destination in mind. He said they found themselves at Bokaro station after waking up in the morning, following which police rescued them safely.
Details of the incident have been shared with the girls’ family members and local police so that a thorough investigation into the matter can be carried out. However, further details on the nature of the family dispute have not been disclosed.
Meanwhile, the DSP said Bokaro police were treating missing person cases with seriousness and were working towards achieving complete resolution of such complaints. He added that the Superintendent of Police had issued directions for strict action against station in-charges found negligent in handling such cases.
Similar missing-person and rescue operations have been reported elsewhere in the state recently. In one case, a young man’s body was recovered from a rented house in Adityapur, prompting a separate police probe. Elsewhere, officers in Seraikela recently recovered stolen jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh after tracking down suspects.
Besides rescue operations, police in the region have also stepped up vigilance around railway stations following a spate of theft and trafficking cases. In Ranchi, a woman was held with brown sugar worth Rs 5 lakh in an unrelated case.
