JAMSHEDPUR – Former chief minister Arjun Munda reached MGM Medical College on Saturday after three members of a tribal family were killed over a land dispute.
The killings took place at Kenjra Tola Tarobburu under Tonto police station in West Singhbhum district. All three bodies had been brought to the college for post-mortem examination.
A surviving member of the affected family met Munda during his visit. He sought security assurances following the killing of his relatives.
After being briefed on the case, Munda spoke with the West Singhbhum deputy commissioner and the superintendent of police. He asked officials to ensure the post-mortem examinations were conducted immediately.
He also demanded adequate security be provided to the surviving family member. Munda further targeted the state government over the incident.
He noted that the state’s land and revenue minister hails from this very region. Despite this, he said, the brutal killing of three members of a tribal family over a land dispute was a serious matter.
According to him, the incident exposed the government’s failures in the area. He said the government and administration should take immediate cognizance of such serious land dispute cases.
This, he said, would prevent disputes from turning violent and costing families their lives. Munda demanded that security and justice be ensured for the victim’s family in this case.
Police had disclosed the triple murder on Friday. The victims were identified as Rajin Dorayburu, around 40, his wife Jano Dorayburu, around 38, and their 12-year-old son Kande Dorayburu.
According to police, Ragmiya Dorayburu filed a written complaint at Tonto police station on August 26. The complaint stated that three family members had been killed over a land dispute and their bodies concealed.
Police began an investigation after receiving the complaint. Two accused were subsequently arrested in connection with the case.
Jagannathpur SDPO Raphael Murmu said the bodies were recovered based on information provided by the arrested accused. A blood-stained axe used in the killings was also recovered.
“The initial investigation has revealed a land dispute behind the murders,” the SDPO said. Police are now probing whether any other individuals were involved and examining the full circumstances of the case.
