Jamshedpur: In a sensational development, Gujarat ATS have arrested one Abdul Majid Kutty from Mango Chowk in Jamshedpur on Saturday and took him to Gujarat in connection with a case relating to Mumbai bomb blasts that had rocked the nation in 1996.
The arrested person Abdul Majid Kutty is alleged to be a close aide of Daud Ibrahim, the absconding and wanted accused of Mumbai bomb blasts and several other cases. He has been living under the hood in Jamshedpur for at least two years, sources said.
The arrival of ATS team and the arrests made by them here remained a secret operation and even the local police did not know much about it.
After the revelation by the Gujarat police, a probe into whereabouts of Majid was started. During investigations it was found by the local police that Abdul Majid Kutty has been living in Duplex No. 197 of Mango Sahara City Duplex for the last two years.
The duplex belonged to one Rajesh Sharma and the family had rented it from him.
Surprisingly, the police said, the arrested accused was not only living comfortably during the last 24 years, but had also made trips to Malaysia, Dubai and Bangkok and other countries on a fake passport.
Police sources hint that he was allegedly using the name of Kutty Mohammad Kamal for living in Jamshedpur and was also using a passport with this name.
The revelation by Ahmedabad police caused quite a sensation in Jamshedpur.
Even the close neighbours of Kutty did not get any hint about there being anything amiss. The neighbours said that the family was very cordial and was of helpful nature and also showed warmth towards other neighbours.
They had no idea that he could be involved in any wrong-doing.
Police sources, however, hinted that Majid was allegedly involved in supplying weapons in 1996 Mumbai Bomb Blasts.
A case was lodged against him in Mehsana police station of Gujarat 24 years back.
Gujarat ATS was looking for him for the last 24 years.
