Key Points:

- Shopkeeper narrowly escaped; firing linked to old enmity over unpaid dues
- Country-made pistol and one live round recovered from arrested accused
JAMSHEDPUR – Police in Jugsalai have arrested five criminals in connection with a firing incident that had spread panic in the area, recovering a country-made pistol and a live cartridge from their possession.
City SP Lalit Meena disclosed the full details of the case on Wednesday. He said the shot at the shopkeeper had been fired by one Armanuddin alias Paltan. A total of five persons had been involved in the incident, all of whom had since been arrested.
The five accused identified by police are: Mohammad Armanuddin alias Paltan, Mohammad Arman alias Raj Bachcha, Zafar Ali alias Murga Raju, Mohammad Arif Ansari, and Amandeep Singh. All five are residents of the Jugsalai police station area. Moreover, all of them had prior criminal records.
According to police, the incident had taken place on July 31. On that date, the accused had opened fire outside Imtiyaz General Store, located on Millat Nagar Road in the Jugsalai police station area. The shopkeeper had narrowly escaped being hit.
In addition to firing at the shopkeeper, the accused had also assaulted him and vandalized his shop. The shop owner, Imtiyaz, had subsequently filed a formal complaint at Jugsalai police station.
In his complaint, Imtiyaz had alleged that the accused had opened fire when he had demanded repayment of money they owed him. Police confirmed that the firing was rooted in an old personal enmity between the parties, triggered specifically by the demand for the outstanding debt.
The arrested accused had a history of criminal activity in Jugsalai. A country-made pistol along with one live bullet was recovered from them at the time of their arrest.
The Jamshedpur police have been conducting intensified operations against armed criminals in the city in recent months. However, incidents of firing linked to personal disputes and recovery of dues have continued to surface. This Jugsalai shooting case is among a series of such incidents where disputes over money have escalated into armed attacks on shopkeepers.
In contrast to earlier cases where accused remained at large for extended periods, police in this instance moved swiftly. All five accused were apprehended and the weapon used in the crime was recovered. City SP Meena confirmed that investigations were continuing.
