  • MLA Purnima Das Sahu demands Rs 50 lakh compensation and fast-track trial
  • Protesters demand swift arrest of accused and security for victim’s family

JAMSHEDPUR – A massive demonstration erupted in Jamshedpur on Monday as the BJP Jamshedpur Mahanagar Mahila Morcha organised a one-day sit-in protest outside the District Deputy Commissioner’s office. The agitation was held in response to the rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in Vishnugarh, Hazaribagh district.

The protest march began from the BJP district office in Sakchi. Demonstrators proceeded on foot to the DC office, carrying placards and banners.

Slogans such as “Give justice to our daughter” and “Hang the culprits” rang out along the entire route. Anger among the crowd was palpable throughout.

Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Das Sahu was present at the demonstration. BJP Mahanagar President Sanjeev Sinha and several other senior party leaders also attended.

At the protest site, MLA Purnima Das Sahu broke down while recalling the details of the incident. Her tears moved many in the crowd to become emotional as well.

She launched a sharp attack on the state government. “Daughters are not safe in Jharkhand,” she said. “This incident shakes the entire society and exposes the complete failure of this government.”

Sahu put forward three key demands. She demanded Rs 50 lakh in compensation for the victim’s family. She also demanded an impartial investigation and stringent punishment for those found guilty.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders submitted a memorandum to the state government through the Deputy Commissioner. The memorandum demanded that the case be heard expeditiously in a fast-track court.

In addition, the memorandum called for the swift arrest of all accused persons. It also demanded that the victim’s family be provided with adequate security.

Mahila Morcha office-bearers strongly condemned the incident. “The agitation will continue until the guilty receive the harshest punishment,” said one office-bearer.

The protest sparked significant political and social activity across the city. The demand for women’s safety in Jharkhand has been growing louder in recent weeks.

The Vishnugarh incident has drawn widespread condemnation from political parties and civil society groups across the state. Child protection concerns have been at the forefront of public debate in the region.

The BJP warned that if the state government failed to act swiftly, the protests would be intensified. The memorandum submitted to the DC is expected to be forwarded to the state government at the earliest.
