JAMSHEDPUR – The Bharatiya Janata Party organised a vigorous demonstration in Jamshedpur on Friday as part of a statewide protest against alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations across Jharkhand. Party workers burned an effigy of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, during the demonstration.
Slogans against the Congress party were also raised throughout the protest. BJP leaders accused the Congress of adopting double standards on the issue of examination transparency.
They alleged that the party speaks of fairness in examinations while staying silent on irregularities reported in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission-CGL recruitment process. However, the leaders also referenced alleged lapses in the excise constable recruitment drive as part of the same pattern.
The protesters demanded a fair investigation into the recruitment processes. Meanwhile, they called for greater transparency and action against those found responsible for the alleged irregularities.
BJP leaders also criticised Thursday’s incident in Ranchi, where Congress workers reportedly laid siege to the party office and pelted stones. They described the episode as a premeditated act. A BJP leader present at the Jamshedpur protest said democratic systems leave no room for violence of this kind.
Speakers at the demonstration said the futures of thousands of young aspirants preparing for competitive examinations are at stake. Besides this, they said the government bears responsibility for ensuring the recruitment process remains fully transparent and impartial.
In addition, BJP leaders claimed the central government is working toward stricter laws to prevent paper leaks. On the other hand, they alleged the Congress is attempting to mislead the youth on the issue.
Jamshedpur has seen a series of political demonstrations over education and recruitment matters in recent years. Congress workers in the city had earlier held protests demanding action following Supreme Court rulings on Hemant Soren‘s government, while student groups have separately staged demonstrations tied to national examination concerns. The BJP has previously taken out rallies in Jamshedpur against price rise and unemployment, reflecting the party’s continued focus on youth-related grievances in the district. Babulal Marandi, the state BJP president, has also previously raised questions over governance failures in Jharkhand’s recruitment and welfare schemes.
