JAMSHEDPUR – A young man from Jugsalai lost his life on Monday after a Tata Steel fire engine ran over his motorcycle at the roundabout near Tata Main Hospital in Bistupur.
The deceased has been identified as Mo. Husam Akhtar, a resident of PB Road in Jugsalai. He was riding his motorcycle toward the United Club when the collision occurred.
According to witnesses, the road accident took place at the TMH roundabout. The Tata Steel fire engine was moving toward Bistupur. Meanwhile, the young man was heading in the opposite direction toward the United Club.
The two vehicles came face to face at the roundabout. The impact of the collision was severe. Akhtar’s motorcycle went under the fire engine. He was caught under the wheels and suffered critical injuries.
Panic spread at the scene immediately after the incident. Local residents and police rushed to the spot. The seriously injured youth was quickly removed from the site. He was then transported to Tata Main Hospital in a tempo for treatment.
However, doctors were unable to save him. He died during treatment at the hospital. This is not the first such fatality near the TMH roundabout. Road accidents in Jamshedpur claimed 24 lives in April alone, according to police records.
On receiving the news, the victim’s family rushed to the hospital. The family was devastated on hearing of his death. Relatives were inconsolable.
Bistupur police station personnel arrived at the scene after being alerted. They began gathering evidence and questioning eyewitnesses. Bistupur police station in-charge Alok Kumar Dubey confirmed that the youth had died during treatment. “The young man sustained critical injuries in the road accident,” a source at the police station said. “He succumbed while receiving medical care. The investigation is underway.”
Police said the cause of the accident is being probed. Legal procedures are being completed. The circumstances leading to the fatal crash are also under examination.
Eyewitnesses said the fire engine was proceeding toward Bistupur. The biker, on the other hand, was traveling toward the United Club. Both vehicles met head-on at the roundabout. The biker had no time to react.
