SERAIKELA – Padma Shri Chhutni Mahato, the noted social activist from Seraikela who has long battled the practice of witch-hunting, has thrown her weight behind all seven Narendra Modi public appeals, describing them as a sincere effort toward a stronger, self-reliant India.

Mahato, honoured for her decades of work against witch-hunting practices, said the prime minister’s calls go well beyond routine government programmes. “Modi hai toh mumkin hai,” she remarked. “Every citizen needs to take the prime minister’s message seriously,” she said.

Among the seven appeals, she highlighted the one urging people to restrict cooking oil consumption. According to her, reduced oil use would improve public health. On the other hand, it would also lighten the financial burden on households.

She separately addressed the call for citizens to prefer swadeshi goods. She said that when people choose local products, it boosts the national economy. Moreover, it generates employment at the grassroots level. “The dream of an Atmanirbhar Bharat will be realised only when every citizen plays their part,” she said.

Mahato also spoke of her personal experience with the work-from-home model. In the past, she had to travel out for many tasks. However, she now completes most of her work from home. She noted that this change saves both time and resources.

Women’s empowerment and household well-being, she stressed, are at the core of several of the prime minister’s seven appeals. The Seraikela district activist urged people across the country to embrace all seven appeals with a positive outlook.

She also noted that women and families stand to gain most from healthy lifestyle choices endorsed by the prime minister. In addition, she called for greater awareness about food habits and health consciousness among common people. Mahato also touched on the connection between self-reliance at the individual level and the broader national goal of economic strength.
