CHAIBASA – Train services on the Chaibasa-Dangoaposi rail route were halted for hours after an elephant herd strayed onto the tracks, prompting fresh safety measures.
An elephant herd suddenly reached the railway line on Tuesday. The disruption occurred between Chaibasa and Dangoaposi.
However, the animals remained near the tracks for a long time. They also crossed the railway line during the incident.
Meanwhile, train movement on the route was suspended immediately. Several services remained stalled for hours.
Moreover, railway officials monitored the situation closely. Trains resumed only after the herd moved into the forest.
In contrast, speed restrictions were imposed across the stretch. Drivers were instructed to exercise special caution.
Railway authorities informed the forest department about the herd. Coordination was initiated to prevent mishaps.
Meanwhile, the Chakradharpur division has seen similar incidents earlier. Elephant corridors often intersect railway tracks in the region.
Earlier, 10 trains were cancelled due to elephant movement near tracks. An elephant died in a train collision near Sonakhan station.
Similarly, concerns were raised after an elephant death in Chaibasa forest. The region has witnessed repeated human-elephant conflict.
In contrast, forest officials continue monitoring elephant corridors. Railway authorities said vigilance would remain heightened.
Operations have normalized on the route. However, cautionary orders remain in force.
