JAMSHEDPUR – Police have arrested four accused in the Tinplate Maidan shooting that killed fruit trader Kanhaiya Yadav, seizing firearms during raids.
The shooting occurred on Wednesday in Golmuri area. However, the victim later died during treatment.
Kanhaiya Yadav was shot at Tinplate Maidan. Meanwhile, police rushed him to Tata Main Hospital.
Doctors declared him dead during treatment. However, the incident triggered tension in the locality.
Following a written complaint by his wife Kusum Devi, a case was registered. Meanwhile, the SSP directed formation of a special team.
The team operated under the City DSP. Moreover, four accused were arrested in coordinated raids.
Those arrested are Sumit Kumar Singh and Gurpreet Singh alias Raj alias Lole. Meanwhile, Amrik Singh alias Vicky Singh alias Khebda and Raza Alam were also held.
All are residents of the Golmuri police station area. However, interrogation is continuing.
On their disclosure, police recovered two country-made pistols. Moreover, seven empty shells and three pellets were seized.
Police said the accused have criminal backgrounds. Meanwhile, Gurpreet Singh faces robbery cases in Telco and Barmamines police stations.
Amrik Singh was booked in 2022 for murder and Arms Act violations. However, Sumit Kumar Singh also has prior cases.
The SSP said more suspects may be involved. Meanwhile, raids are ongoing to arrest others linked to the case.
The development follows recent firing cases in Jamshedpur. Moreover, incidents like the Sonari shooting and the Kadma murder case had raised concern.
Police said forensic tests on seized weapons will follow. Meanwhile, further investigation is underway.
