Tigress Cubs Named Tara and Sara at Jamshedpur Zoo

JAMSHEDPUR – Jamshedpur residents named two tigress cubs born at Tata Steel Zoological Park through a unique public participation initiative.

The cubs were born to tiger Rudra and tigress Meghna. The birth occurred on November 27, 2025. Zoo authorities invited citizens to suggest names for them.

The naming process ran from January 10 to January 13, 2026. More than 550 entries were submitted during this period. Citizens showed overwhelming enthusiasm for the initiative.

Zoo officials reviewed all suggested names carefully. They prioritized names that were easy to pronounce. Moreover, the names needed to carry positive meanings.

The selection committee also considered how the names complemented each other. The cubs are siblings, officials noted. Therefore, paired names were deemed more appropriate.

Angel Verma submitted the winning entry with names Tara and Sara. She will receive recognition on Republic Day. However, several other participants also suggested the name Tara.

The name Tara appeared in multiple entries. Md. Arman, Megha Mahato, and Rishita Sharma suggested it. In addition, Pratham Agarwal, Ravi Kashyap, and Monalisa Barman proposed it.

Adnan Akhtar, Aditya Kumar, and Sujeet Haldar also submitted Tara. Furthermore, Dipanshu Singh and Syed Ejaj Hasan suggested the same name. All these participants will receive complimentary zoo entry passes.

The passes will be valid for participants and their families. This gesture acknowledges their contribution to the initiative. Meanwhile, both tigress cubs remain healthy.

Veterinary teams recently vaccinated them against canine distemper. The first cub weighed 7.34 kilograms during the checkup. On the other hand, the second cub weighed 7.20 kilograms.

These weights indicate healthy growth patterns, zoo officials confirmed. The cubs receive continuous monitoring and veterinary care. Besides vaccination, they undergo regular health assessments.
